As you can see, this client had a major decorating dilemma. She just recently purchased her dream home and this one area was giving her the blues when it came to decorating such an odd shpae space in her home. This is the first area of the home that you see when you enter her home. This space odd shaped as it is, also had to compete with the ever so gorgeous winding staircase. In addition, she also wanted this space not only to look stunning, but she wanted it to be functional and welcoming to her guests AND serve as additional seating for her future grand parties. So I got the frantic phone call and came right over with my design thinking cap and sketch pad in hand.
This is what the area looked like before. The one great thing was my client already owned this leather settee that fit perfectly into the space. Who would have imagined that the shape of the settee would fit perfectly in the rounded niche area of the wall. The stacking boxes serve as place to set drinks or snacks during her many grand parties.
Since my client’s design and decor style is that of Old World, we brainstormed on what place on that wall space. We knew off the bat that since this space was unique in that is was nestled under the staircase with a curved wall, that the piece of art or decorative accessories had to be unique as well. We both knew that a framed art piece would not work because of its dimensions. We knew something had to go there that would take up the majority of the wall space but not look to busy. Well my client wanted to add some religious accessories to her home….then that is when it hit me…. hang decorative crosses in different shapes, sizes, textures and styles.
