When it comes to shopping, I do not discriminate where I shop. Wherever there are sales, bargains, discounts, closeouts etc….I am normally there waiting to get my “shopping on”….LOL! One of my favorite places to shop are “thrift stores”. I normally find THE best stuff at my local thrift stores. Well, this thrift store adventure proved to be very lucrative because I found three great items that I recycled/upcycled into whimsical decorative accessories for my home. I was so pleased with my finds, I did a Haute On Design webepisode….LOL! Well, I do webepisodes about everything I find…LOL!

Directions for the thrift store finds:
Materials used to take this brass alligator to a platinum silver:
1 can of Krylon Colormaster in Metallic Silver purchased from Walmart.
The plantation shutter:
I used chalkboard spray paint for the writing areas and stained the rest of the shutter.
1 can of Minwax Wood Finish in English Chestnut 233 (You can use whatever stain you like)
1 can of Valspar Chalboard Paint in black
All items purchased from Lowe’s
Note: You will want to spray the chalk on first. Be sure to cover the front and side portions of the shutter because those areas you will be staining. After the spray paint has dried, remove the cover from the shutter. Next stain the front, then the back. Please be sure to follow the instructions on the both the spray paint and the stain.

Note: Spray both sides of the board with the matte black spray paint. Only apply the chalkboard spray paint to the front of the board. Please be sure to follow the instructions on the both the spray paint and the stain.
